3 Small Steps That Might Help Lessen Symptoms Of Depression

"You Smile, but you wanna cry. You talk, but you wanna be quiet. You pretend like you're happy, but you aren't" (healthyplace.com)

Depression is a serious darkness that many people deal with on a daily basis.  For some, it is temporary and during difficult times, while others may find themselves in a constant battle to cope and overcome it.  For those who deal with depression, it may take a lot of effort to put on a happy face, get out of bed, handle simple everyday tasks and some struggle just to exist.

Here are 3 small steps that might help lessen symptoms, which may in turn get you one step closer to where you need to be. Whether that is helping yourself overcome a rough patch or seeking professional help.

1. One of the biggest symptoms of depression is feeling worthless. Find a connection to someone who makes you feel wanted, loved or appreciated. This could be a family member, sibling, or a friend. *Sometimes it is our pet that shows us the most unconditional love and admiration, interact with your furry friends.

2. Find your light...either figuratively or literally.  Find the bright spots in your life, past or present and focus on them.

Or seek out the sun and literally bask in the light. It may be a task to get outside, but the sun has a weird way of positively activating our body and mind.

3. Find humor. When you enjoyed life, what made you laugh? Was it a funny movie, a comedian, home videos?? Find something that would of entertained you in the past and try immersing yourself in it.
